Noida elevated road to ease traffic pangs
The Noida authority has decided to build an elevated road from Chilla village (Mayur Vihar I in Delhi) to the Mahamaya Flyover. The elevated road is expected to also help ease traffic on the Outer Ring Road and decongest Noida roads.
The move by the Noida authority is aimed at complementing the Delhi government’s plans to extend the existing Barapullah elevated road (over the Yamuna river) from Sarai Kale Khan to Mayur Vihar I. Authority officials claim that Noida’s elevated road will help thousands of commuters who have to face traffic jams on the existing Delhi-Noida link road.
The Noida authority has started preparing a detailed project report of its first elevated road. “We are also studying Delhi’s Barapullah elevated road project. These two roads will also help commuters coming from ITO who want to go to the Yamuna Expressway or Faridabad,” said a senior Noida authority official.
The project to build the proposed 5.5km-long road over the Shahdara drain is likely to be completed by 2016.
“Commuters who, at present, get stuck in long traffic jams on the Outer Ring Road and National Highway 2 while travelling from Delhi to Faridabad can use the new route to save time,” said AK Goyal, chief maintenance engineer (CME), Noida authority.
“Delhi commuters, who want to go to Agra via the Yamuna Expressway, will enjoy a signalfree ride from AIIMS and Sarai Kale Khan in south Delhi,” he added.
Another authority official said, “A commuter can reach the Noida expressway or NH 2 in eight to 10 minutes via this elevated road in future from AIIMS and Sarai Kale Khan.”
At present, commuters from Delhi taking the Yamuna Expressway to Agra get remain stuck in traffic jams at several points such as Kalindi Kunj, Sector 15A cut and Noida gate in Sector 14A.
